The firm was founded in 1999 in Dar es Salaam by three former university classmates. It is the only integrated reference work containing detailed commentary and analysis on national legislation from more than 100 countries as well as information on the rules of procedure of more than 100 international and national arbitral institutions and the leading international arbitration treaties and agreements.  Lawcastles also contributes Tanzanian and Zanzibar Chapters in the looseleaf work “Legal Aspects of Doing Business in Africa” which provides coverage for over 28 jurisdictions in Africa on the requirements and considerations for doing business and investing in African countries.
